Interview Balázs Milánik - The Lockers #5
In this episode of the Lockers, we invited KABK grads to talk about their theses and graduation projects. In addition, we talk about their experience of The Hague and how they got to their final project.
Balázs Milánik explores the role of the graphic designer through Royal Metro Transit Services, a fictional metro network that uses two opposing narratives. By drawing on the allegory and visual language of public transport systems and basing his research on real-life metro networks, the project maintains the structure of a real transit network, using design as a tool of idealism and illusion.
Four stations spread around KABK, modeled after real-life frictions inside metros, culminate in a dysfunctional environment, showcasing the differences between the promises and realities of design. We delve into why you would start your thesis and final project about metrolines, because we really wondered.
"Metro stations are really rare because everything that you see underground in a metro station is designed by someone."
