Heske ten Cate is a Dutch curator, researcher and writer. She is currently artistic director at Nest, an art space in The Hague. There she develops exhibitions and programs that focus on topics such as feminism, historical archives, counterculture, nightlife, power and social issues.

She worked for 5 years as editor-in-chief at Mister Motley and is co-founder of Kunst is Lang (in collaboration with Luuk Heezen), Naakt op een Kleedje and television program Scrollodex (in collaboration with Yuki Kho): podcasts and TV programs about contemporary art. She has a strong drive to make contemporary art accessible to many people and to lift art outside the white cube.

Her current art historical research focuses on the (historical) position of ‘the mother’ within and outside the visual arts, together with curator Laurie Cluitmans she is developing a transhistorical exhibition for the Centraal Museum Utrecht about (wishful) parenthood, self-determination and care. The book 'Mothering Myths', published by Valiz, will also be published in March 2025
